Perfect pairing

You don't go to the jewelry store to buy a pair of shoes and you won't go to an art gallery to purchase a new car.  Every industry is specialized and requires specialized personnel in order to achieve some level of success.  The same can be said for architecture.  In this case, the client knew exactly where to go for her new contemporary two story rear addition - Randall Mars Architects for the design and Jennifer Gilmer for the kitchen design.  This project goes to show that when pairing the right team together for a specialized product, the outcome can be sensational.  This project is currently featured in the Late Fall 2011 edition of Home & Design Magazine.  To view more photos of this project, please visit http://www.thorsenconstruction.us/.

Don't be scared of marble

Marble countertops have long had the reputation as being stunning, yet unsuitable for kitchens due to softness of the stone and the tendency it has to scratch easily.  In the past couple of years, homeowners have tossed out the old reputation and have had these countertops installed left and right.  Their beauty and appeal are too hard to overlook and if you're just somewhat responsible about keeping you kitchen clean, you won't have to worry about the wear and tear that can come with owning marble.  Both kitchens above were designed by Southern Kitchens in Alexandria, Virginia.
